BECOME SNA CERTIFIED
The SNA Certification Program is designed to provide recognition to our members that develop and encourage the highest standards in
school foodservice and nutrition programs.
Why should you become certified?
- Professional recognition from peers and superiors
- Increased self-esteem and pride in one's work
- Improvement of skills and knowledge, resulting in higher quality work and better service to school children
- Greater understanding of the role school foodservice and nutrition programs play in child development
- Demonstration of commitment to one's chosen profession
- Preparation for higher job responsibilities
There are three levels of certification. Basic requirements include:
Level 1
- 1 year of child nutrition experience
- Less than a high school diploma/GED
- 30 Specialized Training Hours
- 15 Continuing Education Credits every three years
Level 2
- 1 year of child nutrition experience
- High school diploma/GED
- 90 Specialized Training Hours
- 30 Continuing Education Credits every three years
Level 3
- 1 year of child nutrition experience
- Post-secondary education
- 150 Specialized Training Hours
- 45 Continuing Education Credits every three years
Applying For Certification
- Complete the certification application. It can be obtained from the Certification Section in SNA-VA Important Documents
- Pay Certification Fee as listed on the application form for the level at which you are applying
- Include required documentation showing you meet the requirements at the level for which you are applying
